Experimental Electronic Orchestration: Orc Mod Series # 717
I am continually amazed at what can be created using a synthesizer and a workstation like the Korg Triton. It offers an incredible array of sounds that rival the output of actual instruments. Purists might roll their eyes and snicker, but the ability to compose—or, as I refer to it, "de-compose"—within a small space is an astounding gift to the world of music. While acoustic instruments will never fall out of favor, that doesn't mean there aren't many other ways to reach the same destination.
I enjoy experimenting with different software instruments and settings, sometimes reinventing a particular sound or timbre until it is no longer recognizable, and other times simply playing it straight. I often record short pieces while searching for a specific sound or phrase; this is one of them. I may or may not use what I create immediately; often, years pass before I return to these recordings.
Discovering a phrase or sound made long ago in a totally different state of mind provides a fresh basis for inspiration and gratitude. Having the technology to create, preserve, and access those specific moments at a future date is a fabulous gift. Can you imagine what the Masters could have done with such options?
