Not a lot to say about this offering, other than it grew out of a spec and an idea: combining railcar graffiti with video. The video (scroll down) was pretty basic, which is probably why the idea was never fully realized—yet it’s hard to tell.
At its core, it’s about a roustabout riding the noisy rails, living on the tracks, playing on the rails, somewhere between movement, machinery and chaos. I call it "roil noise."
The sound is built around drones, with a sitar thrown into the mix for a little flair and an unexpected contrast against the noise of the rails. It’s rough, restless and a little unruly, much like the world it came from.
Truly a reflection from the yard.
Recorded in 2009 at Level 3 Mania.
